And if you want to know more:
At the beginning…
It has started with the passion of a mountaineer, Michel Fabrikant, who climbed the Incudine moutain, the highest peak in southern Corsica, in 1952. When he reached the summit at dawn, the magic of the moment and the beauty of the land charmed him so much that he developed a great love to Corsica that would never leave him.
Then he methodically explored the island’s paths and climbing routes.
And in 1965, he joined Guy Degos’s team – the forestry engineer in the Departmental Directorate of Agriculture – to study a route as close as possible to the island’s dorsal ridge. In 1972, this study led to the first route of the GR20, the Europe’s most legendary high-altitude trail.
During a stage of reconnaissance of the terrain, Michel Fabrikant got in awe of a unique spot on the eastern coast of the island, a few kilometres away from the North of Porto-Vecchio. A dazzling hillside overlooking in an idyllic beach of white sand: Pinarello Bay.
Excited, he contacted his brother Wladimir, who was then the owner of a holiday village in Italy.
Also delighted, Wladimir Fabrikant decided to open a new holiday village on this virgin land, and in 1967, Caramontinu opened its doors for its first season.
In love with sports and Nature, Wladimir and his wife Simone offered an original concept: a large number of activities – such as sailing, windsurfing, volleyball, basketball, archery… – are included in one single package, allowing summer visitors to keep their holiday budget under control. Moreover, everything has been designed to integrate harmoniously the infrastructure and keep this privileged site pretty intact.
Wladimir and Simone made the village thriving for many years. Then the children took over it: Patrick, his wife Cathy, Lily (Elisabeth) and Martine have kept the soul of Caramontinu alive.
But at the end of the season of 2015, the Fabrikant family decided to have a well-deserved rest and stop this family adventure. For us, the holidaymakers (some of whom have been coming for decades), it was unthinkable, even unbearable, to let our ‘Cara’ close its doors forever…
So, a few of the holidaymakers since very the beginning decided to keep the magic alive by taking over the reins of the village together.
And, in 2016, Kallisterra was born. Well, the village was cut by half, but the main infrastructures were kept and even renovated (restaurant, theatre, bungalows…), and the original soul was totally preserved…
And still today, nearly 60 years later, it is still pleasant to stroll along the flourished paths, of palm trees and charming oleanders, in the shade of the majestic umbrella pines and enchanting eucalyptus trees, to wander around the sports fields where little children have replaced their grandparents, to dive or sail in the clear turquoise waters, embraced by multicoloured fish…
From a crazy gamble, Vova and Simone created a paradise on earth, and our job is to make it blossom through the great values that holidaymakers want to transmit to you.
Almost 50 years since Caramontinu, and almost 10 years since Kallisterra, Caramontinu’s granddaughter, that drive young and old alike delighted. And we look forward to introducing you to our oasis very soon.
